When it comes to cash for labor, is there a tax that needs to be paid?

And is there a certen amount that you can make before tax needs to be paid?

Yes. Incomes for foreigners are still taxable with some exceptions. 

If you are employed by a Chinese company in China, then you are responsible for income tax if you salary is higher than RMB 5,200 /month. In addition, unlike Chinese citizens, a foreigner enjoys various deductions.
